Devastating storms hit the Burgundy vineyard at the end of July. Again, as in 2011 and 2012, it was mainly the Côte de Beaune that was affected: Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, Monthélie. The hail completely destroyed the bunches and vegetation of the vine on complete plots. This is the case for example on the Beaune 1er Cru which are destroyed at 90% in some cases! This is catastrophic for many winegrowers who were betting on a normal harvest in 2013, after 3 years of quality grapes but in small quantities. Most are also not insured against hail, as these insurances are very expensive. This is all the more a shame because after a difficult spring, the beginning of summer and its strong heat had allowed the vine in Burgundy to catch up with some of the delay. We can only hope that thunderstorms and hail do not reappear before the harvest, i.e. from the end of September. orage_bourgogne
