The Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne (BIVB) has launched the renewal of its 330 designation signs.
They are real “totems” for visitors. The signs indicating the wine appellations of Burgundy are starting to get a makeover. “Winning in sobriety, the new panels are based on the graphic charter of Burgundy wines. With their brown color code, in reference to the terroir, they fit perfectly into the landscape. This color is also the reference in terms of signage The Grands Crus, for their part, maintain an additional mention specifying their surface area”, specifies the BIVB.
Virginie Valcauda, Marketing and Communication Director of the BIVB, announces that these replacements “will be staggered over a year and will be made as and when the administrative validations are carried out. We started with the Châtillonnais and are preparing our schedule of locations in the entire vineyard.”
As part of the future Cité des Climats
Burgundy is the only French region to have such a network of panels. Initially installed in the 1990s, these more than 330 displays are scattered throughout the Burgundy vineyard. For Christian Vanier, General Manager of the BIVB: “Thanks to these panels, you can see the locations of the names of Burgundy, so you can discover the appellations. They are not above ground. It’s important to show them.”
A facelift that is part of a more global wine tourism objective for the interprofession. In 2023, the three sites (Mâcon, Beaune and Chablis) of the Cité des Climats et Vins de Bourgogne will open. Places of life and discovery where you can glean advice on routes through the vineyard.
