Vintage 2013 in Burgundy
Like 2012, 2013 is again a vintage that has been delicate and stressful for Burgundy winegrowers. The harvest took place in October, which has been exceptional for more than thirty years. The main reason, a month of May that was cold and wet. A disturbed weather during flowering in the second half of June generates not only coulure (aborted flower) but also millerandage (grains of very variable size and different maturity) on many clusters, with the result of small berries …. and a harvest volume 30 to 40% lower than normal in some appellations, particularly in Côte de Nuits. The advantage on the other hand of these small berries is a very beautiful maturity, despite a summer with capricious sunshine. As a result, a 2013 vintage finally very promising in Burgundy, with a sustained color of red wines, a beautiful natural concentration without excessive tannins. In addition, the acidities are beautiful, which is rather encouraging for the guard. The first tastings show a beautiful tension, precision, fruit, finesse and voluptuousness. Many Burgundy wines are already offered for marketing, especially in white but now also in red. Make up your mind by tasting for example on the first wine fairs that take place in spring!
