Pouilly-Fuissé, the most prestigious vineyard in the Mâconnais
In Burgundy, in the Mâconnais three appellations begin with the name of Pouilly, but Pouilly-Fuissé is better known than its neighbors Pouilly-Loché and Pouilly-Vinzelles, because of its larger production.
The Pouilly-Fuissé appellation although it is known throughout the world, this AOC is not very extensive. In total, 760 hectares planted in four villages (Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly, Vergisson and Chaintré), entirely dedicated to Chardonnay and produces a great white wine from Burgundy with excellent value for money.
This prestigious appellation created in 1936, can be followed by the name of the climate from which the wine comes on the label.

Pouilly-Fuissé has neither premier crus nor grands crus, for tax reasons. The Burgundy winegrower had a negative view of a different taxation for the wines.

Soil
The Pouilly-Fuissé appellation benefits from these Jurassic clay-limestone soils, stony scree and a shale zone on the territory of the four communes.
Most of the vines are exposed to the east and southeast, between 250 meters and 350 meters above sea level.
To the north of the Pouilly-Fuissé, Solutré and Vergisson appellations: two emblematic rocks of Burgundy stand side by side. Their soil is composed of limestone ridges (these are the remains of coral reefs dating from the time when the sea covered Burgundy in a tropical climate).
Tasting
The Pouilly-Fuissé appellation is produced exclusively in white , Chardonnay grape variety.

A golden color with greenish reflections, on the nose an intense bouquet with aromas such as hazelnut, toasted almond, white fruits (peach, pear, quince), but also citrus (grapefruit, lemon), floral (peony) and even vegetable notes (linden, fern, linden, acacia). A great rich wine , tasty with a beautiful finesse, all while revealing a beautiful acidity and flint aromas . A very nice aromatic power with slightly buttered aromas. In the mouth, opulent features, straight with a beautiful complexity. Very pleasant, lively, fragrant, without forgetting its mineral touch!
Most often vinified in barrels, powerful and aromatic. These wines are pleasant to drink young, five to ten years of ageing will not scare them, their style is often powerful, with the years fat dominates acidity.
The white wine of Pouilly-Fuissé is served between 13 and 14 ° C, never iced!
This elegant and charming wine will perfectly accompany a lobster, seafood, shellfish, white meats like a chicken with cream. For surprising pairings, Pouilly-Fuissé can go very well with exotic cuisine such as couscous, a fish tagine or goat cheese.
Be careful not to confuse the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation with the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, two different wines. The first produced in Burgundy and the second grown on the banks of the Loire!
