After a mild winter, a warm spring and a beautiful summer, the maturity of the grapes took on average two to three weeks ahead of 2019. Burgundy is heading for a record year in terms of precocity. An August 15 in harvest? This is what is coming for the 2020 vintage, probably one of the earliest in history given the current progress of the vine. Veraison (colouring of the grapes) began a week ago for the earliest plots, suggesting a mid-August harvest for crémants, then around 20-25 August for still wines. No certainties at the moment, since everything will depend on the level of precipitation in the coming weeks. Prolonged drought could delay the ripening of the grapes. If the trend is confirmed, the 2020 vintage could be compared to the years 2011 and 2007, just behind 2003, the absolute record.
